How should I care for my jewellery?

In order to keep your jewellery as pretty as the day you bought it, I recommend the following:

  • Skin and hair products can cause jewellery to become tarnished. I strongly advise applying any cosmetics and scents before you put on your jewellery.

  • Polishing Cloths such as this are very effective at removing tarnish/restoring shine

  • Extra care is required when cleaning jewellery with pearls, and gems/stones - do not use a silver dip solution on these.

  • Jewellery made with pearls, gems, or sea glass can be cleaned using a soft brush and soapy water.

  • Don’t use abrasive cleaners.

  • Keep jewellery carefully stored and separated.

  • Keep chains fastened so that they don’t get tangled up.

What is a hallmark?

A hallmark is a small mark on your jewellery that guarantees it is made from the precious metal that the seller claims it is. It is a sign of quality and an assurance to you the customer that you are getting a genuine precious metal article.

Precious metal is silver, gold, platinum or palladium.

What does a Hallmark look like?
The mark has 3 parts:

1.    The Sponsors mark shows who has made the jewellery.

2.    The Fineness mark show what metal it is made from. 925 means Sterling Silver.

3.    The Assay Office mark shows where it was tested and hallmarked. I am registered with the London Assay office and this is represented by a leopard’s head symbol.

Is a Hallmark necessary?

It is a legal requirement that all jewellery claiming to be made from a precious metal and sold in the UK carries a hallmark. However, there are exemptions. The weight threshold for silver jewellery is 7.78g so anything less than this does not require a hallmark. In order to keep my prices as low as possible for you, I will only hallmark items above the weight threshold. If you specifically want lighter weight items to be hallmarked, please contact me for a quote.
